March 7, 2006 - In the months since its arrival in October, Microsoft and Ensemble Studios' Age of Empires III has remained high on the PC bestseller charts, stealing strategy space from the equally titanic Civilization IV and perhaps encouraging the World of Warcraft faithful to log off for a little bit.
With the latest Age of Empires strong on its feet, Microsoft today announced that an official expansion is in development at Ensemble and due to arrive this fall.
While neither company is announcing a title just yet, Microsoft says the expansion will offer three playable Native American civilizations -- including the Iroquois Confederation -- along with new gameplay elements, a fresh single-player campaign, Home City enhancements, and new maps and units. The game's existing European civilizations will also get new content.
Ensemble Studios' Age of Empires III challenges gamers to lead a European people into the New World to explore, conquer, and colonize. The title offers a variety of Industrial Age units and technologies, plenty of combat, and a single-player story spanning three generations.
